We are looking for Editorial Support to join the Octagon Professionals projects team at the European Space Agency (ESA) in Noordwijk (ESTEC). This role will support the Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration at ESA, with responsibilities in both Noordwijk, The Netherlands, and Cologne, Germany. The purpose of this service is to assist HRE-FS in defining, planning, and executing internal and external communication and outreach activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity and professionalism.

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:
Photo and video coverages:
- Organise and perform photographic and video coverage at ESTEC and EAC in offices or in a studio against a green screen, or on location, including during HRE events like VIP visits at ESTEC or EAC, hardware testing in test facilities, launch of a mission, training/launch/landing of an astronaut, test campaigns, microgravity campaigns (e.g. parabolic flight), or e.g. ad hoc interviews of scientist, engineers or personalities.
Video edits and montages:
- Support the edit of video productions for traditional and social media formats (e.g. ESA portal, YouTube channel, social media, conference stands, ESA Web TV, and exhibition stands);
- Download, review, and store videos according to agreed processes;
- Provide video editing and animation of graphics;
- Search for supporting video materials in ESA’s video archives and external stock footage, when required;
- Ensure content approval of video productions;
- Offer creative input to video productions;
- Follow the rules laid down in the ESA Brand Centre for graphical / textual elements;
- Provide multiple versions of a video, adapted to the requirement of various channels (YouTube, Instagram, exhibition, etc) as requested, as well as b-rolls for ESA’s Videos for professionals, where necessary;
- Support in the production of videos in ESA Establishments or at special events (Launches, Space shows like Le Bourget, ILA Berlin etc.);
- Interact with the different Offices to understand channel- and audience-specific needs for corporate productions, and interface with cameramen, script writers, and graphic designers;
- Create or select from sound libraries sound effect for enhancing user experience;
- Create simple 3D elements needed for motion design production;
- Edit and adapt external videos to be compliant with the ESA Brand elements.
Download images from the ISS and setting up in flight calls:
- Download all relevant images and movies from the International Space Station, using a secured access through the data set within the secured environment on site at ESTEC;
- Store all imagery on the local secured server at ESTEC;
- Obtain/collect clearance by NASA for further distribution;
- Distribute relevant imagery to the users and institutes in charge of the on-board experiments;
- Make material available for further editing, be it on site or off site;
- Distribute relevant footages to the education office when applicable;
- Distribute the material into the photo gallery and social media pages of the astronauts, when applicable;
- Organise in flight calls with the ISS crew from ESTEC, or on location;
- Edit videos, stop motion and animated GIF files of the images and films;
- Downloaded from the ISS, in combination with material from the archives.
Maintain photographic and video assets:
- Set-up and maintain the HRE photo & video studio at ESTEC Erasmus;
- Maintain HRE video and photographic equipment and assets at ESTEC;
- Procure new equipment when needed.
Archiving of pictures with relevant keywords, tags, etc, within ESA Photo Library.
Provide training for filming and photography.
Job requirements:
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
- At least 4 years of relevant experience;
- Highly proficient in communication means and social media;
- Professional trainings in relevant subjects are an asset;
- Customer orientated;
- Teamwork attitude;
- Diplomatic and political sensibility;
- Understanding of international environments;
- Autonomy in delivery;
- Proactive attitude;
- Open to flexible working hours;
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
