Custodian Documentalist

Octagon Professionals is one of the main service providers supporting the European Space Agency, and we are expanding our documentation support team at ESTEC in Noordwijk. We are looking for structured, detail-oriented professionals who thrive in an international, highly technical, and security-focused environment.

Role Summary
As the Secure Communications Custodian – Navigation Directorate, you will be responsible for the secure management and full accountability of all COMSEC items within the ESA Navigation Directorate. You will ensure strict compliance with ESA COMSEC and Security Directives, performing all duties in a highly regulated and trusted environment. This role combines operational precision, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with ESA Security Offices to maintain the integrity and security of all cryptographic materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain full accountability of COMSEC accounts and items.
• Oversee the reception, registration, transfer, and destruction of COMSEC material.
• Perform integrity checks in line with ESA COMSEC instructions.
• Prepare COMSEC Item Reports (CIRs) and Transport Plans.
• Act as a liaison with ESA Security Office for approvals.
• Conduct annual COMSEC inventories and support audits.
• Perform secure key generation where applicable.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in STEM and/or business-related disciplines.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years in COMSEC, cryptographic material handling, or an equivalent trusted role.
• Experience in government, defense, or institutional security environments.
• Strong audit discipline and accountability mindset.

Security & Eligibility

• EU Member State nationality (mandatory).
• Valid Personnel Security Clearance (PSC) required.
• Completion of ESA COMSEC training and certification.
• Full on-site presence at ESTEC.
